Nothing says "I am here" more than a pedestrian crossing button.

The body madly mashes it in the wild with an open palm, hoping that some sort of magic combination of buttons triggers the crossing as the body waits impatiently.

There is no mashing of buttons in the gallery, and the invitation to touch textile with bare hand is often met with apprehension. I invite you to extend your hand to this work, triggering the sound of my own personal button, gifted from the back of a construction worker's ute.

The blackwork pattern for this piece is based on the core memory weavers' work during the Apollo space program. By retracing their actions in stitch, I offer a small token of recognition towards the work of these women and their underrepresented contribution to computer science history.

I pause to consider alternatives to the ways we interact with technology. Slow and considered acts of stitch are almost an antidote to fast, heavily reproducible systems of habitual engagement.
